The 25 Brightest Stars in the Sky - Part 10

Betelguese - Bo Tsemach "the Coming Branch"

Betelgeuse is the brightest star in Orion. It's Hebrew name is Bo Tsemach, meaning "the Coming Branch". Since "the Branch" is a Scriptural and Heavenly title of our Saviour, we see the promise of the King's Return in this amazing star.

Betelgeuse is located in the right shoulder of Orion. See the photo of Orion below (Betelgeuse is the orange star on the upper left hand side of the image. (Since Orion is facing us, his right shoulder is on our left.)

Betelgeuse is one of the largest known stars. It is 700 times the size of our Sun. In fact, if our Sun were as massive as Betelgeuse, it's surface would extend all the way out to the orbit of Jupiter!

In spite of its massive size, Betelgeuse has a cooler surface temperature than our Sun. The low surface temperature (6000 F compared to our Sun's 10,000 F) of Betelgeuse causes it to appear orange-red in color.

Betelgeuse: Hebrew name: Bo Tsemach (Strong's Concordance numbers H935 and H6780), means "Branch who comes" or "coming" "Branch", which is a reference to Yahshua's Return
Jeremiah 23:5  "Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth."
As Betelgeuse is part of the Orion constellation, understanding the spiritual meaning of this star involves understanding the Creator's Message in Orion (Kesiyl) as a whole. I will be addressing this star-family in great detail in this blog in a few months. You may also find information about the Orion constellation in my book, God's Amazing Star Secret).

Here are are few fun facts about Betelgeuse:

1) At near infrared wavelengths, Betelgeuse is the brightest star in the night sky. The following is a picture of Betelgeuse, taken with infrared to show its infrared brilliance:

2) Betelgeuse is from the Arabic word bat al jawza, which means "the giant's shoulder".

3) Betelgeuse is also called Alpha Orionis.
