Next Month's Sky Overview

Upcoming Sky Events for April 2019...

In the month of April, our special star-family will be Sagittarius (Qesheth) and its decans. The month of April has several sky events, which I will discuss in more detail on the day they occur. But here's a heads-up on what you can expect to see in the month of April:

April 6 - New Moon Eve

The first visible crescent of the new moon should appear at sunset. Watch for the crescent moon which will follow the sun going down as it sets. The new moon will not be visible very long following the sunset. April 7 (the day following the sighting of the first visible sliver) will be the first new moon of the Biblical year, from which one counts to Passover (the 14th day).

April 11 - Mercury at its Greatest Western Elongation

In the early morning hours of April 11, Mercury (Kokah in Hebrew) will be at its highest point above the eastern horizon. This certainly makes it the perfect time to go out and sight the elusive "wandering star" (as planets were anciently called). More about this coming on the 11th...

April 22 - Lyrids Meteor Shower

While it isn't going to be a meteor "storm", the annual Lyrids Meteor Shower usually produces about 20 meteors per hour. The epicenter of the shower will be located in the constellation of Lyra (Kinnor, in Hebrew), which appropriately happens to be one of the decans of Qesheth - our featured constellation for the month of April. The meteor shower will peak the night of April 22 and will end the morning of April 23. A few meteors will even be visible in the nights leading up to and after these dates.

Notably, this meteor shower will occur during the Spring Feast of Unleavened Bread (which begins April 21 and concludes on April 27, this year... more on all of this on the day(s) of the event...

Reviewing the Highlights

Reviewing Aqrab's Rich Messier Objects, Nebulas, and Lessons of Spiritual Victory...

As March draws to a close, so does our focus on Aqrab and its decans. But as we depart this part of the Mazzaroth, it seems appropriate to give it one final salute, in directing our attention to some of the highlights we've covered in this Messier-Object/Nebula rich star-family.

Before I begin listing them all, I should back up long enough to give a little history on the term "Messier Objects". Charles Messier (1730-1817) devoted much of his life to searching the heavens for comets. In 1758, while looking through his rudimentary telescope for comets, Messier sighted what would later be known as the Crab Nebula. It was the first of such space objects which Messier recorded.

By 1774, Messier had recorded (and published his record of) 45 such space objects. And by 1781, the Messier catalog of objects had grown to 103 entries. Since then, science has included 7 more objects, now called Messier objects, after the man who first "discovered" them (in more modern times).

With this background in mind, let's turn our attention to the Messier objects to be found in the Aqrab star-family.

Aqrab itself contains several Messier objects, including:

The decans of Aqrab also contain many wonders, including:
  • The amazing Bow star in the Strong Man's Knee
  • Messier 5 & 16
  • The beautiful and significant Eagle Nebula
  • There's the Twin Jet Nebula, the Little Ghost Nebula, the dark nebulae Barnard 68, the Pipe Nebula, the Snake Nebula and the Dark Horse Nebula.

Obviously, not all of these beautiful space objects have significant names or meanings which are still known to us. For example, the Twin Jet Nebula...  All ancient meaning for this nebula is lost to us today. Still, we can appreciate the Creator's mighty power in making something so beautiful to behold.

But the amount of star names and details which we can find preserved from ancient times portray a message in this star-family that is as spiritually vital as it is beautiful. In this third star-family, we see the epic battle that is being fought over every soul. We also see that the outcome of this spiritual war determines the eternal destiny of every soul.

And, as is plainly seen in the heavenly message of this star-family, it is only in God's power that mankind may find the victory over the old serpent from Eden. It is He, Who gives us the victory. But, as this star-family also shows, He doesn't deliver us while we sit back in our spiritual easy chairs. We have a part to play:
Psalm 144:1 "Blessed be Yahweh my strength, which teacheth my hands to War (Aqrab), and my fingers to fight."

Lessons on Spiritual Warfare - Part 4

Anointing Your Home to Extend the Blessing

At this point, we are going beyond the direct message of the heavens in this star-family. Yet a study of biblical anointings would be incomplete without the mention of the home anointing.  Once we have surrendered ourselves to God, through the anointing process, it is appropriate to daily submit our “stuff” to Him. The anointing of a person is about forgiveness for past unrighteousness while being set  apart for holy use. This is also the reason for anointing our homes and possessions.

In a Christian home, next to the individuals belonging entirely to the Heavenly Father, there is nothing more   important than the property belonging completely to God and being set apart for holy use as well. Not only are we,    personally, the temple of God; but also our homes are to be established in righteousness as places where the holy angels love to dwell.

In a pre-anointed Christian home, there are likely many objects which have been brought into it from the enemy’s realm. There have likely been activities done in the rooms that are not of God.

All of this unsanctified past is cleansed away through the biblical home anointing process. Thus, we highly recommend that once the family has all been anointed, an important next step is to anoint the home. Simply come together as a family, and under the leadership of the father, perform the sacred anointing service as listed in this chapter.

In Bible times, not only were people anointed, but items that were to be used in God’s service were also anointed. In Exodus 29:36, we see that the altar in the tabernacle was anointed. In addition, the entire tabernacle was anointed with oil.
“And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the  testimony” Exodus 30:25-26.
Once again, the tabernacle was anointed because it was to be set apart for holy use. The tabernacle, therefore was set apart for holy use by the anointing service. This is the same intent that committed Christians have for their homes. Thus, the anointing of the home becomes a significant part of submitting one’s possessions to the Father for holy use.

Olive oil is the base that is specified for use in an anointing. If only virgin olive oil is available, this will serve the purpose.  However, it must be noted that the biblical oil was more than olive oil alone. Exodus 25:6 tells us that the biblical anointing oil also possessed certain spices.

Exodus 30:23-25 (see also Exodus 30:31-33, 37-38) lists the exact ingredients of biblical anointing oil.
“Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels (a shekel was about 1/3 ounce in weight), and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, and of cassia (cinnamomum cassia) five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin (a hin is about 3 quarts): and thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.”
This recipe gives very large proportions because this was an amount suited to a large tabernacle’s use.  But, for a batch of anointing oil for the home or individual ministry, it is undesirable to make so much.  There are websites that make biblical anointing oil available in more suitably sized bottles. One such website is Victorie Inc.

To perform a home anointing service in the proper biblical manner, begin with prayer dedicating the entire home to the Heavenly Father and to His holy use. State the intent that nothing impure or of the enemy would be left within the home at the end of the anointing service. Thus, the anointing is to be cleansing as well as dedicatory.

Begin at the exterior front door. The father, or head of the home, should place a dot of the oil on the sides and top of the door-jam, like the Israelites did at Passover in Eqypt of old. Seek the Heavenly Father, in prayer as this is done, asking God, from this time on to, claim this door and property as His own—intended to bring glory to His Name.

Ask God to seal out any evil (the oil represents the work of the Holy Spirit and the Blood of the Lamb by faith), and to forgive any acts of sin that have ever been committed in this house or on the grounds, even before the house was there. Reclaim the space and dedicate it to the Heavenly Father for His sacred use.

Ask that it become a place where angels wish to dwell, and where demons fear to tread. This same prayer and series of requests will be repeated in every room throughout the home.

Lessons on Spiritual Warfare - Part 3

Christ in Us - the Hope of Glory

Not only does Yahshua battle the serpent, in us, He also battles the Fruits of the serpent in us! This work also involves us - in other words, we have a part to play in this part of spiritual warfare also. And the practical steps to personally experience this part of the Aqrab star-family is the special focus of today's blog.

Ungodly habits are formed through repeatedly falling prey to the enemy’s advances. As we have discussed, these habits eventually result in a complete loss of willpower to resist Satan in the area of the bad habit.  The good news about an anointing is that the recipient’s willpower to resist is restored enough that he or she may now choose to use the Heavenly weapons the next time the enemy tempts in this area.

Yet, the bad habit is not destroyed during the anointing. This is the work that must be accomplished in the post-anointing process in order to bring the individual to total spiritual healing.  Every time the anointed one is tempted in this anointed area and keeps the victory, the bad habit is weakened.  Praise to our Heavenly Father, if the Christian continues to overcome in this area, the day will come when the habit will be completely broken. This is the work of sanctification.

Finally, maybe several months down the road, the victorious Christian will suddenly realize that he is no longer even tempted by what was once such a weakness. This is the point when the Christian has fully tasted of the dear Saviour’s strength.  And through His strength, victory-by-victory, the human weaknesses are removed until they finally become areas of strength in us. As it says in 2 Corinthians 12:9:
“And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness…”
Throughout the process of the post-anointing period, we need to remember that the devil has the right to tempt us.  He tempted our sinless Saviour (Hebrews 4:15), and we, as servants of the Father, cannot expect to be exempt from the things Christ experienced. As we find in John 13:15-16:
“For I have given you an Example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his Master…”
When the enemy hits us with a temptation; which may be a thought(s), emotion(s), or even a physiological urge; it is our job to first choose to honor God by not falling. We will not feel like choosing obedience to God in resisting the temptation, at first.  But our feelings, so easily manipulated by the enemy, are not an accurate gauge of reality. All active spiritual warfare, for the purpose of resisting the enemy, begins with the choice to claim Christ’s power to resist the enemy.

We know that simply having an evil thought is not sin, yet the Bible tells us plainly that thoughts can be sinful. Matthew 5:28 states that if a man looks at a woman to lust after her, he has sinned as surely as if he had committed the physical act of adultery.

This brings us to the next important point: Having an ungodly thought or emotion put upon us is not a sin. This is a temptation. But, at what precise moment does a thought cross the line from being a temptation into becoming a sin? A thought/emotion temptation becomes a sin the instant we let it “hang out” in our minds, mull it over, or even momentarily give it consideration. To illustrate this point, consider the cartoon on the right:

A small boy sees a toy rocket displayed in the toy store window. He wants the rocket.

Quickly checking his pockets, he finds that he has $2.00, but the rocket costs $10.00. At first he is terribly disappointed. Now the devil, who likes to hit people with well-timed suggestions at the precise moment when they are most likely to succumb to them, hits the boy with a temptation. “Wait a minute… I could just take the rocket!”

Notice that the thought comes to the boy in the first person. In other words, it seems to be his own thought. Inside his mind, it even seems to come to him in his own voice. Rather than resisting the evil suggestion, the boy falls prey and begins to mull it over. “No one is looking…” The moment the boy began to give consideration to the demonic thought was the moment of sin.

In the Scriptures, we are given two keys for consistent victory. They are found in James 4:7. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  This is a simple promise, and GOD’s promises NEVER fail.  Therefore we KNOW, beyond all shadow of doubt, that, if we will first submit to God, and then resist Satan in every temptation, the enemy MUST flee. Practically speaking, how do we go about submitting to God?

The first step to full submission is the anointing process.  In laying those faults down before the Heavenly Father, claiming the power of the Cross and the promises against them, we are stating, “I submit these areas of my life to You, Heavenly Father. Please cleanse me of them and remove them from me completely, that I may be wholly Thine.”

The next step takes place daily, as we submit to GOD.  Paul said, “...I die daily” (1  Corinthians 15:31.)  This means that we have to make the choice, every morning, to lay down our “old man of sin,” choosing rather to be alive in Christ.  We must willingly state, as it says in Galatians 2:20:
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”
We are to seek, morning-by-morning, to be so fully surrendered to God that we no longer seek to fulfill our own will on anything. It is His will that matters.

It is easy to say that we are submitted to GOD, but saying so and being so are often not the same thing.  When we are fully submitted to God, we recognize, in every area of our lives, that we are only His stewards.  All that we are and have is really His. As it states in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2:
“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.  Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
What does it mean to be a steward? And how does this help to have a victorious Christian life? Recognizing our stewardship role first makes an impact in our attitudes about irritations and “set-backs.” For example, when you understand that “your” time is really God’s time, as every breath you draw is a gift from Him, you will be rightly inclined to view unexpected demands on “your” time as divine appointments.

The submitted Christian unforeseeably stranded in an airport, is not going to get frustrated over the potential of being “late” to his scheduled appointment. Rather, he sees  himself as serving the living God. If God, Who is not a God of waste, promising that “all things work together for good to them who love God…” (Romans 8:28), has chosen to strand His child in an airport, there is a godly reason for it. Thus, the submitted Christian looks around prayerfully asking who in the airport is to be the object of ministry.

Another area where submission to God reaps a dramatic change is the use of “our” possessions (including money). When we view “our” things as our own, we easily abuse them. A television, for example, if viewed as “our” possession, is often used for all kinds of unrighteous purposes.  But, when a family acknowledges God’s rightful       Ownership over the T.V., it cannot be used wrongly again.

Indeed, if we are a guest in another person’s home and we wish to watch something on this friend’s television, simple courtesy to the owner demands that we ask his permission to use his T.V.  In the same way, if we wish to use GOD’s television, we naturally won’t do so without asking His permission first.

When our family submitted “our” belongings to God, acknowledging His Ownership over our television, we hung a sign on the T.V. It read: “Note: This television belongs to God. If you would like to use His T.V., please kneel down and ask His permission first.” This simple statement was followed by the guiding verse found in Philippians 4:8:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
An honest Christian cannot ask God’s permission to use His T.V. to watch shows about violence, immorality, or drug abuse. In addition, we can not seek Heaven’s approval to view programs with profanity.  As one can well imagine, through this kind of submission to God, our television use was  revolutionized.

As it states in James 4:7, submission to God is the first step in victorious Christian living. As we have already suggested, submitting ourselves to the Heavenly Father’s will is something we need to do every morning. In our early morning     devotional time, as we eat of the spiritual manna of the Word and breathe the Heavenly air of prayer and communion with God, let us commit to active submission to God’s will and purpose for our lives.

Submission is vital to victory; but, it is only one of the two keys given in James 4:7. The second half is resisting the enemy. Effectively resisting a demonic attack doesn’t start at the moment of temptation any more than ensuring a warrior’s victory in a fight begins with the physical assault. A warrior doesn’t instantly become such at the first onset of an opponent. Rather, he is ready for the battle because he has become an effective fighter through hour-upon-hour of preparatory training. In the same way, resisting the enemy as an effective spiritual warrior, begins before the conflict starts with the tempter.

To further emphasize the importance of preparing for spiritual battles ahead of time, consider the following illustration.  A young woman with no weaponry experience or combat training suddenly developed a desire to possess the world’s most superlative sword. The desire grew to the point that she booked herself passage to the far off location of the most renowned weapon-smith the planet had to offer.

For the purposes of our illustration, money was no object, so the young lady met with the master sword-maker and successfully commissioned him to fashion for her a sword so marvelous it was to be without equal.

The master skillfully set about the task which, for the purposes of our illustration, he was capable of accomplishing. In a few months, the amazing sword was complete. Sending for the young woman, the master presented her with the nothing-short-of-the-world’s-best-sword.  She thanked the master weapon-smith and paid him handsomely for his craftsmanship. Then, fabulous sword in tow, she returned to her home and mounted the remarkable piece above her mantle where she could frequently admire it.

Some time passed, and then one night a dark man, dressed as a Samurai, snuck into the young woman’s home. Suddenly looking up from her evening reading, the woman gasped in horror to realize she was under attack. Leaping to her mantle she jerked her superior weapon from the wall and turned to face her masked assailant.

We have gone far enough in our story to make the point. In this conflict, between the novice woman with the world’s best sword and the Samurai with the inferior weapon, who would win? Naturally, you say, “the Samurai would win.” We all understand that the knowledge of how to use the sword is critically missing from the young woman’s defense. The superlative sword would be practically useless in her unskilled hands. We can shake our heads at her futile attempt to defend herself, realizing that she is wasting her time having not learned to use the great weapon she possesses.

And yet, sadly, this is how most Christians face the enemy of souls. We spend little or no time preparing for spiritual conflict. Thus, we are no more successful in withstanding the devil than this foolish woman would be in warding off a Samurai’s attack.  If we would be victorious Christian warriors, we must become skilled in using the superlative Sword of God’s Word.

Hebrews 4:12 describes this mighty Weapon.
“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing    asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
So how can we become skilled in using the Sword of the Word? There are three ways, two of which are more general, and the third being quite specific to the enemy’s    attacks. The first way to become an effective spiritual warrior in using the Word of God is to study it on a daily basis. 2 Timothy 2:15 is plainly a command to all would-be followers of Christ:
“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly  dividing the Word of Truth.”
The second way is by memorizing Scripture in great quantities.  As it says in Psalm 119:11, “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” Having the Scriptures in our memory is a powerful safeguard in times of temptation.

As mentioned above, studying the Bible and      memorizing the Scriptures are two vital elements in every effective spiritual warrior’s daily life. But, these are just generally a good idea. The third use of the Heavenly Sword is specific to each of our individual areas of weakness.

Humanity may not enjoy deep introspection, but most of us know our own areas of weakness. We know what thoughts and situations most tempt us into sin;  and, knowing what we find tempting in the first place is the key to using the Sword of God’s Word to prepare for temptations in advance. For every demonic stab against Christ, the devil faced a precise parry in the quoted Word. The Saviour’s choice of texts for battle with the devil were the perfect counter to the enemy assault.

We know Satan tempts us in the areas where we are weakest.  Thus, these are the areas we need to match with Scriptures to quote in future spiritual attacks. We suggest that the Christian-warrior-in-training should find several Scriptures which specifically relate to areas of temptation in his or her life.  Write these texts on 3 x 5 cards and carry them throughout the day.  During the memorization process, keep the cards with you at all times, so that the appropriate Scriptural parry is always ready. In this way, always be prepared in advance, to resist the enemy. As it says in 1 Peter 5:8:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
Now it is time to address the seven Heavenly weapons and how to employ them in the instant of temptation to effectively resist the enemy. The seven Heavenly weapons are:

· Rebuke Satan in Christ’s Name and Blood (Jude 1:9, Matthew 16:23, Acts 16:18).
· Pray for the Heavenly Father to send His angels to fight on your behalf (Psalm 91:11).
· Quote an appropriate Scripture for the specific temptation (2 Peter 1:4).
· Sing songs of praise to the Saviour (1 Chronicles 16:8-10)
· Read passages from Scripture aloud until the temptation passes (Ephesians 6:10-18).
· Speak (aloud) to God  praising Him for specific blessings  (Psalm 105:2-3).
· Share your testimony of what God has done for you with someone (Revelation 12:11).

Please notice that the first three items are written in a bold-faced font. This is because they are critical and should be employed, in this order, in every temptation situation. The remaining four items are available to be employed, after the first three, and when most suited to the situation.

If a temptation hits us in a public place, we may need to whisper the rebuke (Satan doesn’t read our minds—so we must at least mouth the words rebuking him in Jesus’ Name. We can pray in our minds for heavenly aid.  And if we find ourselves unable to speak the Scripture, we can still point at the 3 x 5 card where it’s written in order to claim it against the enemy. But, in a public place, singing or sharing one’s testimony may not be appropriate.

Singing and praising God aloud are especially effective against depression and fear. Sharing our testimony with another not only strengthens our faith when assailed with doubt, but it also encourages the friend with whom we share.  As with anything in life, practicing the use of the Heavenly weapons develops skill. Eventually, we simply know exactly which weapons to employ at the precise moment.  But, the good news is that until that happens, the Heavenly Father makes even our baby steps sufficient. Remember, His grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9)!

The next key in effectively resisting, according to the formula of James 4:7, is perseverance. We must not quit fighting, or cease using the Heavenly weapons, until the temptation is gone. Becoming too tired to fight is a condition none of us can afford. By the grace of Christ, if we will seek the victory now, we can rest later; but, to tire out during an attack is to fall on enchanted, enemy ground. As Christ said in Luke 18:1:
“...men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
It is not going to be easy to choose to walk on the path of victorious Christian  living. This is no arm-chair, Sabbath-day-only religion. It will be a fight. Paul admonishes:
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6:12).
But the wonderful news is that this fight will bear victorious fruit! The Heavenly Father fights on the side of the weak Christian. He is totally committed to our gaining the victory. For this reason, if a satanic attack warrants dispatching all the angels of Heaven to our side, the Heavenly Father will do so in order to insure that the victory will be gained.

That is what Jude 1:24 is talking about when it says:
“Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy…”
The battle is His! He will not lose.  But, He also will not fight on our behalf until we ask for His help, chose to wield the Heavenly weapons, and resist the enemy.  Once we have made that choice, the power of God is behind us to insure the victory.

Our Heavenly Father will never allow us to fall prey to  temptation if we will grasp onto His strength to withstand it. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 there is a powerful promise:
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Many Christians have misunderstood this text to mean that the Heavenly Father will not allow powerful temptations to come upon His people. They think, “We are weak and we couldn’t handle it if the temptations were too enticing.” But, this isn’t what this promise means at all! Rather, the promise that God will never allow us to be tempted above what we are able, but, will make a way of escape, demonstrates the power of Heavenly weapons. The way of escape is the same for every temptation.

We escape, or gain the victory over it, by wielding some combination of the seven Heavenly weapons. No temptation is EVER too great to break through the angelic shield surrounding a Christian using the Heavenly weapons.

Paul extolled these mighty spiritual armaments in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5:
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
Thus, we must not misunderstand the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13, becoming shell-shocked by the magnitude of the temptation sweeping over us.  Such a view sets us up to blame God for our failure—after all, He is the one that let such a “big one” through! Instead, when it seems we are facing an overmastering temptation, we must remember the formula for victory. “Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee” (James 4:7).  Submitting to God and resisting the devil are the two keys to living like we’ve been saved, for which this booklet is titled.

Then we will choose to fight. We will make the decision to wield the weapons, rebuking Satan in Christ’s name, praying for Heavenly aid, and quoting the Scriptures against the onslaught.

As we do, the power of God will be fighting along side of us. Joining our human resistance with His divine power results in overcoming the very temptation that, moments before, seemed monumental. In His power it will go up in smoke!

Victory-by-victory the old demonic habit is cracked and shattered until the day comes when it is utterly gone. This is the end of the anointing work. This is the full realization of the promised blessing sought by the anointing recipient from James 5:13-16. As it says in 1 John 4:4, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them (the    demonic spirits in the world): because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”  For when the old habit is gone, what was begun by the anointing enabling the will, is completed by walking in the Word.
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead. And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again... if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:14-17).
Putting these Scriptural principles into practice for spiritual victory is what it takes for us to personally partake of the Aqrab and its decan of Bau- the Strong Man - Christ - Who battles the serpent's fruit in us.

Lessons on Spiritual Warfare - Part 2

How the Strong Man Battles the Serpent - in us - and Our Part in the Battle

After the rather sobering reality of the three ways that the devil gains the legal rights to enslave us, it is time for some good news.  Gratefully, we look to our Saviour - our Strong Man (Gibbor) -Who is able to deliver us from every demonic stronghold, no matter how debilitating, no matter how strong.  No chain of enslavement is too mighty for His power to break. No satanic prison, born of our own sinful failures, can contain one who would seek freedom in Christ Yahshua!

Having examined the three chains Satan employs to our destruction, we find not only the motivation to seek freedom in Christ, but also the knowledge needed to prevent future enslavement.  As Paul admonished,
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1).
Most Christians have been taught that all freedom happened at the Cross. Yet, for those who claim Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice, often their own victory-less, enslaved existence belies this teaching.  The Cross is definitely the key to freedom in all three phases. But, simply mustering up belief in the fact that Christ died for our sins is not in itself enough to free anyone. True belief is not only metaphysical; it must be accompanied by actions.  In fact, “faith” without the accompanying actions is not faith at all.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” (James 2:17-20).

The demons certainly believe the truth. They know the Heavenly Father is God. They know Yahshua is the Saviour. But, all  this belief and knowledge does not work to their salvation. Demons believe and are lost because their belief is not made living through a transformed life.

Christians have been taught that simple belief is sufficient to set them free from Satan's chains. But this belief alone renders them unable, in a practical sense, to live victoriously. As we study the three stages to  freedom, we must remember that never does it just drop in our spiritual laps while we sit back in our proverbial easy chairs. We have a part to play in every phase of becoming free. Thus, in this chapter we will study the three phases we pass through to find complete freedom, and our own role in each of these stages.

If a person is planning to undergo an operation, there are three phases he passes through to find wellness. The first stage is the pre-operative period. During this phase, the patient must go through the necessary preparation to ensure the surgery’s success. Next, the person experiences the operation itself. And finally, there is a post-operative stage needed to bring the patient to full health.

An analogy of the three phases of an operation can enhance our understanding of how we become whole, spiritually, as well. But before we address each stage, let’s first look at the overall picture. The formula for total healing is found in James 5:13-16. We will be referencing this text several times in this booklet as it is the key to the “operation” phase of our spiritual healing. The operation phase of our spiritual healing process is called an anointing.

“Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of Yahweh: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and Yahweh shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:13-16).

There are several promises of what is to be gained through experiencing a biblical anointing:

1. We find salvation for sin-sick souls (James 5:15).
2. We are raised up and our sins are forgiven (James 5:15).
3. We are healed (James 5:16).

The word “healed,” as found in James 5:16, is from the Greek word iaomai, which means to be literally and figuratively healed, cured, and made whole.

Thus, this word not only applies to physical healing, but it also applies to spiritual healing.  The deeper meaning of this word translated as “healed” in English, is found in Matthew 13:15. Here, Christ laments Israel’s rejection of the healing (iaomai) He wishes to bestow upon them.

“For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal (iaomai) them” (Matthew 13:15).

There are numerous examples in Scripture to demonstrate that Heaven’s form of healing addresses the total needs of the recipient. The fact that the healing went far deeper than the physical body is plainly portrayed in Christ’s own words,
“...Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee… Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house” (Matthew 9:2-6).
We also find the connection between physical and spiritual wholeness stated in 3 John 1:2:
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Thus, we find that the promise of healing contained in the biblical prescription for an anointing is all-encompassing.

God’s promises regarding the fruit of the biblical anointing are tremendous and very desirable to anyone seeking freedom and victory in Christ. There are still more benefits to an anointing, however. Consider the additional blessings the Heavenly Father bestows through this vital and sacred service:

· After a biblical anointing, the Holy Spirit will be with you more mightily than ever before.
· You will have taken a powerful step on the path of sanctification.
· Satan’s strongholds in your life (in the listed areas) will be completely broken.
· You will be free and clean in Jesus and will belong wholly to GOD in all the prayed-over areas that used to be satanic strongholds.
· You will then be ready to begin a mighty work for the Lord.

At God’s command, every Heaven-commissioned priest was always anointed (Leviticus 16:32) before he was given his priestly office. The kings of Israel were also anointed before they could take the throne (1 Kings 1:34). It was through this anointing that the recipient became enabled to carry out this holy and responsible office with the blessing of Heaven (1 Samuel 16:13). Thus, the anointing was a vital part of being set apart for holy use in Old-Testament Bible times.

In the New Testament, we are told that every child of God is called to serve Him as a king and a priest.
“And Yahshua hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:6).
Considering that every baptized follower of Christ is called to be both a king and a priest in His holy service, Christians have a 200% reason to be anointed.  In fact, if all Christians could see the numerous blessings the Heavenly Father has promised to bestow upon them through this service, they would gladly seek an anointing.  For an anointing is not optional for Christians, rather it is a vital part of our being set free from past sins and set apart for Heavenly service.

Finally, there is a wonderful promise of the Bible that serves well as a “blanket” promise, covering any category for which you cannot find a direct Scripture.  It is found in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
“And He said unto me, My Grace is sufficient for thee: for My Strength is made perfect in weakness...” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
