Hadar, also known as Beta Centauri, is the eleventh brightest star in the sky. It is located in the front paw of Centaurus (anciently known as Asham Bazah). It's Hebrew name is Hadar, meaning "to glorify" our King, Yahweh. This is also the official name of the star.
Hadar: Hebrew name: Hadar (Strong's Concordance number H1922), means "to glorify" and "to honor", which is a reference to us giving glory to Yahweh. This star name, Hadar, is found in the following three verses of the Bible:
Daniel 4:34 "And at the end of the days, I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured (Hadar) Him that liveth for ever, Whose Dominion is an everlasting Dominion, and His Kingdom is from generation to generation."
Daniel 4:37 "Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honour (Hadar) the King of Heaven, all whose Works are truth, and His Ways judgment: and those that walk in pride He is able to abase."
Daniel 5:23 "But hast lifted up thyself against the Sovereign of Heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His House before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose Hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified (Hadar). The Creator's Message in this 11th brightest star is clear (11, in Hebrew, is the number of judgment, by the way). Those who are created should wisely and righteously glorify their Creator - not themselves.
King Nebuchadnezzar (of ancient Babylon) had a problem with pride. He forgot that, as a created being, all of his ability, intelligence, even his very breath was all a gift from the Creator of all. One day the king proudly stood overlooking his kingdom. He saw its might, its hanging gardens, its cutting edge architecture, its glistening roadways, its beauty, its prospering people...
Babylon was a wonder of the ancient world, represented in the golden head of the image in Daniel chapter 2. But instead of humbly thanking Yahweh for all He had enabled Nebuchadnezzar to accomplish, the proud king boastfully took all the credit to himself, saying, "Is not this great Babylon that I have built?"
As a result, Yahweh sent Daniel to Nebuchadnezzar with a judgment message. Because of his foolish pride, Yahweh (Who had given the king his intellect and ability to rule) would remove the king's intellect from him. For seven years, the prideful king would be a blithering idiot. He would live as a wild creature eating grass in the field. His ability to reign and even think like a man would be completely gone.
When the seven years of humbling judgment were finished, Yahweh returned Nebuchadnezzar's senses to him. His mind and breath had always been a gift from God. But now, Nebuchadnezzar was finally wise enough to recognize it! Daniel 4:34 and 37 are the king's response (see above). Now, he gave God Hadar - the name of this star. For Yahweh is worthy of honor and glory. And all that we are and are able to do is because of Him. Thus, in Hadar, we see a call to true wisdom. Let us always remember Who is the true Star! Yahweh! Let us give Him honor and glory with every breath!
As Hadar is part of the Asham Bazah (Centaurus) constellation, understanding the spiritual meaning of this star involves understanding the Creator's Message in Centaurus (Asham Bazah) as a whole. I explained the spiritual message and significance of this constellation in my January 15 star blog. You may also find information about the Asham Bazah constellation in my book, God's Amazing Star Secret).
Here are are few fun facts about Hadar:
1) Hadar is part of a triple star system.
2) It is well known in the Southern Hemisphere as the inner of the two "Pointers", which point to the Southern Cross. A visual line is made from Alpha Centauri, through Hadar (Beta Centauri) to find the star at the end of the Southern Cross, as shown below:
