The 25 Brightest Stars in the Sky - Part 13

Acrux - the Cross Star

Can you name the brightest stars in the night sky? They have names and meanings so old that they go back to the time before the beginning of written language. The 25 brightest stars in the sky are (shown with their current names):

But what were their original names? What constellations are they part of? And what do their names mean? In this blog, I have been doing a mini-series on the 25 brightest stars in the sky. Today, our featured star is Acrux, which is the 13th brightest star.

Acrux, also known as "a Crucis" is a multiple star system that is 321 light-years from the Sun. It is located in the Crux constellation (shown below), which is visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

Acrux did not have an ancient Hebrew star name, as far as I can find (although it may have and the name was just lost through time). But it is the lower star in the four stars of the Southern Cross (Adom, in Hebrew).

This is a star with tremendous spiritual meaning. It's meaning is found in the overall constellation which it draws our eyes to behold - Adom, the Southern Cross.

As I explained in the second star-family (this past February) the second decan of Mozanaim is Adom, now called Crux or the Cross. This
constellation is in the shape of the Hebrew letter tav (the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet), which appears much like a cross in paleo Hebraic. The tav is the letter of God’s Covenant, “finishing” Redemption.  Significantly, when Yahshua died (on the shape of a tav), He said, “It is finished.”

Here are are few fun facts about Acrux:

1) While Acrux appears as a single star to the naked eye, it is actually made up of six components.

2) Acrux is the southernmost first-magnitude star. It is only visible south of latitude 27 degrees North. This means that it barely rises from places like Miami, Florida or Karachi, Pakistan. It is not ever viewable from New Orleans, Louisiana or Cairo, Egypt.

3) This star was visible to the ancient astronomers in India. They named it Tri-shanku.
