The Bible is a Reliable Science Book - Part 1

The Bible Patriarchs Taught that the Universe is Expanding

We live in a world which increasingly doubts the credibility of the Bible. Science is perceived as factual and reliable, but Scripture is viewed as opposing the established principles of science. But this perception couldn't be farther from the truth. Actually, the Bible presents established principles of observable science quite accurately.
So what does the Bible say about the universe? Actually, the Bible teaches that the universe is expanding, which is something that most astronomers believe to be true. In the 1920's, astronomers discovered that clusters of galaxies appear to be moving away from all other clusters.

As a demonstration model, you can use a marker and draw points on a balloon. The points are very close together when the balloon is not inflated. But as you inflate the balloon, the points move farther away from each other. If Yahweh was stretching out the universe, galaxies would all be moving away, which (notably) is exactly what they appear to be doing.

Evolutionists suggest that the expansion of the universe is evidence that the bodies in space have been flung out there by a pre-historic Big Bang. Of course, they admit that if this epic explosion created our universe, it should be expanding far more rapidly than it is (since there is nothing in space to create the friction needed to slow things down). But they work to explain this paradox with other guesses...  and on and on it goes.

But the Bible has a clear answer to why the universe is expanding. In several places, the Bible writers explained that Yahweh stretched out (or expanded) the universe.
Isaiah 40:21-22 "Have ye not known? Have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in."
The words "stretcheth out" are translated from the Hebrew word natah, meaning "to spread out, to bend away... extend". The phrase "spreadeth them out" is translated from a Hebrew word with a similar meaning.

As I mentioned above, there are several Scriptural witnesses to establish this as a Biblical teaching. Consider the following:
Isaiah 45:12 "I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even My Hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded."
Jeremiah 51:15 "He hath made the earth by His power, He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by His understanding."
So who knew it first? Did science first know that the universe was expanding? Or did the Bible know that first? The Bible recorded the idea of an expanding universe thousands of years before secular science came to accept the idea.

When the secular world believes one thing and the Bible teaches another, it can be tempting to think that God got the details wrong - or that the Bible isn't credible. But Yahweh is never wrong. And the Bible has proven time and again that it is reliable - historically, prophetically, and yes - even scientifically. And when we finally understand that the Bible is reliable and true on all of these fronts, we find that we can also trust it to guide us personally - spiritually!
