Reviewing Aqrab's Rich Messier Objects, Nebulas, and Lessons of Spiritual Victory...
As March draws to a close, so does our focus on Aqrab and its decans. But as we depart this part of the Mazzaroth, it seems appropriate to give it one final salute, in directing our attention to some of the highlights we've covered in this Messier-Object/Nebula rich star-family.
Before I begin listing them all, I should back up long enough to give a little history on the term "Messier Objects". Charles Messier (1730-1817) devoted much of his life to searching the heavens for comets. In 1758, while looking through his rudimentary telescope for comets, Messier sighted what would later be known as the Crab Nebula. It was the first of such space objects which Messier recorded.
By 1774, Messier had recorded (and published his record of) 45 such space objects. And by 1781, the Messier catalog of objects had grown to 103 entries. Since then, science has included 7 more objects, now called Messier objects, after the man who first "discovered" them (in more modern times).
With this background in mind, let's turn our attention to the Messier objects to be found in the Aqrab star-family.
Aqrab itself contains several Messier objects, including:
Obviously, not all of these beautiful space objects have significant names or meanings which are still known to us. For example, the Twin Jet Nebula... All ancient meaning for this nebula is lost to us today. Still, we can appreciate the Creator's mighty power in making something so beautiful to behold.
But the amount of star names and details which we can find preserved from ancient times portray a message in this star-family that is as spiritually vital as it is beautiful. In this third star-family, we see the epic battle that is being fought over every soul. We also see that the outcome of this spiritual war determines the eternal destiny of every soul.
And, as is plainly seen in the heavenly message of this star-family, it is only in God's power that mankind may find the victory over the old serpent from Eden. It is He, Who gives us the victory. But, as this star-family also shows, He doesn't deliver us while we sit back in our spiritual easy chairs. We have a part to play:
