God's Clock - the Day

The Mazzaroth Defines a Day

As we discussed in yesterday's blog, the Mazzaroth, which is the heavenly lights (sun, moon, stars, planets...) was created by God so that mankind would be able to discern Heavenly Time, both prophetically (End-time Events) and literally (Day to day).
Genesis 1:14  "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years."
The most often-repeating construct of Time, which Yahweh instigated at Creation is the Day. So let's begin with it. How does the Mazzaroth (the heavenly lights) determine and define a Day?

In the Creation week record in Genesis 1, we find that the evening (dark time) and morning (light time) make a day. In reference to the light portion of the day, Messiah once asked, "Are there not 12 hours in a day?" (John 11:9). Thus, the word "day" in Scripture can refer to only the time of daylight, or it can refer to the full period of 24 hours, including day and night.

How does this relate to the heavenly lights? Quite directly, actually...  The sun and its light shine upon the earth during the daylight portion of a day. And the moon and/or stars and their lights shine upon the earth during the nighttime portion of a day. The portion (whether light time or dark time) of the day is determined by which of the heavenly lights are visible in the sky at that time.

But, if we forget that Yahweh made the heavenly lights and appointed them with the job of defining and determining a DAY, we get into some real trouble. In fact, by disconnecting a Day from the Mazzaroth, just as we start to assemble our Scriptural pieces to define a day, a doctrine seems to hit our nicely assembling puzzle with the destructive power of a thermonuclear blast. Maybe a Creation day isn't 24 hours. Maybe its an "age" or undefined period of time. With such a suggestion, all hope of reconnecting with Yahweh's original day-Clock seems lost. But is it right?

The idea that “In the beginning” is an unknown period of time that precedes the first day is a dangerous one. We have to be careful when we put an undefined time-frame between verse one and verse three that goes outside of a 24-hour period for two reasons:

1) there is simply no Scriptural indication that there is a gap between the verses. In fact, Scripture is carefully defining a day in these verses, which becomes lost to us, if we espouse any part of the "gap theory".

2) by adding a period of time where Scripture mentions none, we are adding to Scripture,
which we are repeatedly warned not to do.

When we speculate that there is a gap, we lose all possibility of defining a Biblical day. And being able to define a Biblical day may not be too big an issue on a normal day, but there are times when it really matters when a day begins. When? The Sabbaths!

Quickly, however, let's address the gap theory. To do this, I will share a short story...

This past summer at the Douglas County Fair, my husband and I were running a fair booth offering BEMER sessions (for vascular health and more...) and selling BEMER's along with my Mazzaroth book God's Amazing Star Secret. It turned out to be a winning combination. Had we only offered my book, folks might have glanced at it and walked on, as many don't read much it seems...

But, because we were offering health sessions, folks would come and spend time in our fair booth, giving us a chance to speak to them and prayerfully touch their lives for God. (We hadn't calculated this actually...  It was a divinely inspired idea, which we saw the blessing of afterwards, but couldn't anticipate going into our planning for the fair. But Yahweh is so good!)

So, one gentleman came to our booth for a BEMER session and as we visited with him during his session he asked about our star book. We gladly answered. Learning that our book was glorifying to Yahweh, he mentioned that he believed in the gap theory. He said that he believed there were ages, closer to the evolutionary time-table, between the days of Creation.

I listened but responded that I couldn't agree. The man asked why not. I explained that the Bible tells us the plants and vegetation were created on the third day of the Creation Week. The sun, moon and stars were created on the fourth day. If there were hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years between one Creation day and the next, the plants could not have waited so long for the sun to come up.

But the best way to show that indeed the heavenly lights do define a day, having been given this job at Creation, is to see what the Bible says on the subject.

Scriptures that Prove a Creation Day Was a 24-Hour (Solar) Day

Genesis 1:5 - God Himself named and defined “Day” as the light period, and “Night” the dark period comprising one solar 24-hour day. If a day was an age, e.g. 1000 years, this would mean there would be 500 years of light and 500 years of darkness. Certainly, we don't see this (thankfully, for no life could continue to exist) in our world.

Genesis 1:5 - “Yom,” this Hebrew word for “day.” It is first used and defined in verse 5. It is used 410 times in the Bible in association with a number, e.g. first day, and in each instance it always refers to a 24-hour solar day.

Genesis 1: 5,8,13,19,23,31 - After each day of creation, God specifically declares His act was completed in one day. He counts each day and numbers it, making it extra clear.

Genesis 1:16 - “…the greater light (sun) to rule the day, and the lesser light (moon) to rule the night ….” This obviously refers to 12 hour periods, not hundreds of years ruled by sun, or hundreds of years ruled by the moon.

Exodus 20:11 - “For in six days (Yahweh) made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the Seventh Day …” When we disconnect the Day from the Mazzaroth (solar/lunar), we lose the ability to discern when the weekly Sabbath takes place. This is a critical error for any believer. One of the primary reasons for deepening our understanding of the Mazzaroth is to discern Heaven's Time, in order to worship Yahweh in the Times and Ways that He asks.

Exodus 31:17 - “… for in six days (Yahweh) made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.” Here is another reference showing that when we understand the connection of the Mazzaroth with determining a Day, we are able to rightly calculate and keep the weekly Sabbath.

John 11:9 - “(Yahshua) answered, are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walks in the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world.”

Genesis 2:2,3 -  “And God blessed the Seventh day, and sanctified it ….” The Sabbath was declared as Day #7.

Exodus 20:11b “…wherefore (Yahweh) blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”

Genesis 2:2,3 - Adam was created on Day #6, and lived 930 years. He obviously lived beyond Day #7 when God rested because He and Eve had fellowship with God, and Adam had numerous sons and daughters. If a creation day was 1000 or a million years, Adam would have never seen Day #7.

Romans 5:12,13 and 1 Corinthians 15:21 - “Wherefore as by one man sin entered the world, and death by sin ….” If God used billions of years to create the earth, then extreme death (as evidenced in the fossil record) occurred before Adam sinned. These verses clearly state that death began only after Adam sinned.

Genesis 1:1-31 - The creation week initiated our current (and historical) 7-day week. Ask an atheist or evolutionist where we get our current 7-day week – God gave it to us.

I will conclude this interlude with a link, in case anyone wants a more in-depth study on the gap theory: https://creation.com/genesis-13-undermines-gap-theory

The bottom line is this, Yahweh made the Mazzaroth to define Time. If we disconnect any portion of the Time (listed in Genesis 1:14) from the Mazzaroth, we lose our ability to discern Heaven's Time. Discerning Heaven's Time is one of the primary purposes for which the sun, moon, and stars were created.

By reconnecting the Mazzaroth to a day, we find that indeed the sun-moon-stars, do define the length of a day. And a full day's cycle will have seen appearances from both the daylight heavenly body (the sun) and the night time heavenly bodies (the moon and/or the stars).

Keeping the Mazzaroth connection with Time will protect us from making doctrinal errors and losing our ability to tell Time on God's heavenly Clock.

  1. When I first read Genesis I understood a day was 24 hours. Then, i became confused by man's gap interpretations. Thank you for a clear logical explanation that Yah is not the author of confusion and has told us in His Word and luminaries showing clearly a day to be 24-hours.
