Messier 87

Lessons from a Black Hole

Messier 87 (M87) is a bright elliptical galaxy, which is home to a massive black hole. Pictures of this galaxy and have revealed the first ever image of an actual black hole. The following photo of it was taken with the Event Horizon Telescope.

Messier 87 is part of the Bethulah (Virgo) galaxy cluster, which is about 55 million light-years away from earth.

Black holes are known for being powerful, which irresistibly draw everything in with the most unstoppable of forces. Everything swallowed by the black hole is useless to fill its "sucking", vortex-like void. Nothing fills it. No matter how many stars or space objects are sucked down its gaping center, the black hole remains just as large, just as needy, just as unfilled as it was before swallowing that space object.

Did you know that some people are like black holes? They are needy. They "suck" the time and resources of those around them. True followers of Christ often fall into their web, continually supporting these "black holes", bailing them out of crisis after crisis (all brought on by their own poor choices). Yet the resources, given to “save” these needy people from disaster, never improves their situation. It is as if money, time and talents are uselessly poured down a black hole, every time they are invested to “help”. 

Did you now that this is against God's Way? In Heaven's Way, blessing results. With a "black hole" situation, no amount of resources expended ever produce lasting blessing and benefit. No blessing...  no Holy Spirit...  God is not in these toxic relationships. God is a God of blessing. 

If you find yourself involved with a "black hole" relationship, get out! You cannot fill it. You cannot fix it. You cannot bless it. But under the power of hell, it will surely suck you dry, if you remain in its vicinity.
