As we saw in yesterday's blog, the same wonderful God who carried the Children of Israel out of Egypt on the “Eagles’ wings” (Exodus 19:4) of swift deliverance also sets His children free from spiritual bondage. This delivering Work is portrayed in the white horse and Rider of Qesheth. And in the Kinnor harp we are invited to praise God for His saving Work that is completed for us.
Deepening this encouraging message is Gamar (Ara), the second decan of Qesheth. Gamar (Ara) is one of the smaller constellations. It lies in the third quadrant of the southern hemisphere.
In Gamar we see the sky-picture of an altar to God (Genesis 13:18). But this part of the sky isn’t continuing the Calvary Message. The Saviour’s Sacrifice was fully portrayed in Mozanaim and its decans (Asedah, Adom, and Atarah) which was two star-families back, in the sky story.
This sky-altar is portraying the thank-offering we all are invited to return to God out of gratitude for His Salvation. But before we look further into our thank-offering, let us note that Gamar is a flaming altar. This is important because it shows that God has accepted the sacrifice.
In Bible times when people brought a sacrifice to the altar of God, they didn’t light the fire to consume it. God sent the Fire to consume the sacrifice, as a sign that the offering was accepted. If there was no Fire, the sacrifice was unacceptable.
Consider the story of Cain and Abel. In the story, only Abel’s sacrifice was accepted (since Cain disobeyed and offered fruit instead of a lamb). As proof of this, God sent Fire only upon Abel’s offering (Genesis 4:4-5).
Similarly, in the story of Elijah on Mount
Carmel, God sent a supernatural Fire to
consume Elijah’s offering. But there was no fire for the offering to Ba’al (1 Kings 18:16-45).
The sky-picture of Gamar as a flaming altar shows that the sacrifice has been accepted in the Eyes of God.
Now let’s return to the idea of the “thank-
offering”. In Romans 12:1, we are invited to
present ourselves to God as “acceptable,
living” sacrifices.
Romans 12:1 - “I beseech you therefore, brethren... present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”This means that out of gratitude to Christ, we choose to live for the Will and Glory of God and not our own. Such submission can only be gained through the Grace of God. But the message of Gamar is that God will complete His good Work in us (the Hebrew word, Gamar means “to complete” and “to perfect”) and will accept our living sacrifice.
Psalm 138:8 - “Yahweh will perfect (Gamar) that which concerneth me... ”
