What Happens When a Star Dies?

More Beautiful in Death?

Scripture compares God's people to stars. In Daniel 12:3, it says:
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."
Throughout the Bible we also find that God is calling His people into death - death to self, death to sin, death to our will...  It is as we submit into His Hands, dying to self, that we are given a beautiful new life, in Him.
Romans 6:1-4  "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into (Yahshua) Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
It is only in death that this new life and true beauty are found - the beauty of reflecting a Christ-like character.

This is another way in which people are a lot like stars. Stars too create their most beautiful displays as they die.

In the case of low-mass stars like our own sun, and the M2-9 star pictured above, the stars transform from normal stars to white dwarfs by casting off their outer gaseous envelopes. The expended gas frequently forms an impressive display called a planetary nebula that fades gradually, over thousands of years. M2-9, a butterfly planetary nebula, lies 2100 light years away.

Its beautiful gaseous wings are the result of the center star dying out. And from its death comes such beauty, that it actually brings more glory to God in its death than it ever could in its life...

Here is another planetary nebula (which are created by the death of a star):

  1. "Throughout the Bible we also find that God is calling His people into death - death to self, death to sin, death to our will... It is as we submit into His Hands, dying to self, that we are given a beautiful new life, in Him." is a quote taken from above.
It reminds me of the message in "Keys to Living Like You've Been Saved" that it is only through the struggle of the chrysallis that we caterpillars may be born again into beautiful butterflies reflecting His character just as the death of stars often creates brillant beauty.
