Meaning of Gedi (Capricornus) in Hebrew Word Pictures
As Dr. Frank Seekins explains in his book Hebrew Word Pictures:

The Gimel - the ancient Hebrew gimel looks like an arrow or hump pointing upwards. It represents 1) a "camel" with a hump on its back and 2) something benefited or lifted up.
The Dalet - the ancient Hebrew dalet looks like an animal skin hanging down over the door of a house. This helps us to remember its meaning. The dalet is the "door". The pictograph of the dalet symbolizes 1) a door, 2) the Path or Way of Life, 3) movement, into the doorway.
The Yod - the ancient Hebrew yod looks like a stick man's extended arm with a hand. Yod in ancient Hebrew means "a hand", and looking at the pictograph of this letter helps us remember this. The yod represents 1) the hand, 2) the work or deeds done.
Combining the three meanings of these letters, we get the full Hebrew meaning of the Atonement goat-fish constellation, anciently called Gedi. It means that through the One Who is uplifted (Yahweh) and through the Atoning Work that He has done, we may enter in through the Door to Life. Thus, we are uplifted and benefited.
As Dr. Frank Seekins explains in his book Hebrew Word Pictures:
Ancient Hebrew letters are signs from Heaven. The story of the ancient pictures that proclaim Biblical truth in the Hebrew letters and words used by Abraham and Moses - and how these ancient pictures became the written characters used to write most of the worlds' languages today. (Hebrew Word Pictures, introduction)The fifth primary constellation, anciently called Gedi (remember, Hebrew is read from right to left) appears as follows, when written in ancient Hebrew:
Yod Dalet Gimel
In English, individual letters do not have individual meaning. Letters (other than "i" and "a") have no meaning until they are combined into words. In Hebrew, however, each letter contains enough meaning to justify a sermon - maybe a book - for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. And the meaning of the Hebrew word is gained by adding the meanings of each individual letter.
Considering this, let's look at the full meaning of the Hebrew name for the constellation Gedi, spelled Gimel, Dalet, Yod, as shown above.
