As I have already announced in this blog, for the month of May, our focus will be upon the fifth star-family anciently called Gedi, which is now called Capricornus (which is Latin for "goat").

Gedi is home to the globular star cluster known as M30 or NGC 7099 (shown below).
M30 is located about 27,100 light-years away from Earth and is about 93 light-years across. It has a combined mass of about 160,000 times the mass of our Sun.
This amazing cluster has gone through a core collapse, which is a dynamic process which causes a supernova and also causes there to be a very high concentration of stars at the core of the star cluster. In fact, in the core of M30, 50% of its stars are found in a region that is less than 34 light-years across! The core mass of M30 is so concentrated that it is about a million times our Sun's mass per cubic parsec. This means that it is one of the most dense regions in the Milky Way galaxy.
M30 (or Messier 30) is invisible to the naked eye, but it can easily be seen in 10 x 50 binoculars. The cluster cannot be visually resolved with low-power telescopes. It is only revealed by 4-inch and larger instruments. 8-inch telescopes will show a bright small core and the cluster's large halo. The best time of the year to observe M30 is in the summer.
Astronomers have also discovered that M30 is on the move. The light from the M30 cluster is blue-shifted as it is approaching our solar system at a speed of 181.9 km/second (that's 113 miles / second). But as fast as that is on Earth, it isn't fast in the vastness of space.
