Beta Taurids in Queensland

Heads Up This Week...

In my June 12 blog, I warned about the potential danger for a meteor strike from the Beta Taurids Meteor shower. Well, last night (Saturday night) three meteors from this shower blazed through the sky and rattled some windows in Queensland, Australia (see the photo below).

The "falling star" (meteor) which lit up Queensland was seen from Blackwater in central Queensland to Tweed Heads in northern New South Wales. Several witnesses wrote of it on social media:

"I was driving on the Gatton bypass and the sky went a purplish colour for a few seconds and ten there was a big flash of bright light," Jill Naumann wrote.

Others described the sound and feel of the meteor as an "explosion" when it passed overhead. 

Bev Wildin in Burpengary, which is north of Brisbane said the meteor gave her quite a shock. "I thought someone was banging on my window very loud..." she said.

The South-East Queensland Astronomical Society actually witnessed three meteors shooting through the atmosphere. The loud explosive sound, which witnesses heard and the small earthquake which they felt were not due to an actual strike. The concussive sounds and corresponding tremors were caused by the speed and power of the meteors, which burned up in the atmosphere.

This week, Earth will actually cut across a swarm of meteors of all sizes. Some are big enough, that if they were to strike the earth, they could wipe out a major city with the power of a nuclear weapon.

Scientists correlate the Taurid meteors with the Tunguska Event of June 30, 1908, when a huge meteor exploded over Siberia unleashing the power of 1000 Hiroshima atomic bombs. During this week, Earth will be making its closest approach to the same swarm since June of 1975.

In Scripture, meteors were called "falling stars". These too are part of the Mazzaroth tapestry and have a place End-time Prophetic events.

Revelation 6:12-13  "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind." 

Revelation 8:10  "And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters."
